Summit needed a centralized SIS available via the web to manage its geographically disperse student population. The SIS had to fit into a very limited budget and have the flexibility to manage programs, degrees and courses.

Summit had tried other open source SIS solutions only to find them to be buggy and unreliable. Additionally, the other solutions did not have the ability to manage programs and degrees.

Solution

OS4ED worked with Summit to customize openSIS to add the required functionality to satisfy their needs and the needs of their extended and virtual campuses.

With a limited budget, Summit was still able to deploy openSIS, a viable alternative to more costly commercial applications

Getting help was a challenge as well. After managing their own hosting, ACA decided it needed an education partner who could provide them with a reliable, well supported and hosted solution.

Not finding this with the Focus SIS group, ACA turned to OS4Ed for help.

Solution

Working with the experienced team at OS4Ed, ACA was able to get their data converted quickly and deployed at the Northwest Regional Data Center (NWRDC), OS4Ed’s hosting partner. A dedicated server was quickly installed and ACA is now in production.

After a recent district rezoning, PCS needed a web based student reservation with wizard guided workflows that took into account all of the rules associated with IEP’s, grandfather rights and sibling rights for enrollment.

PCS needed a web based system with complex workflows to accommodate the IEP, grandfather and sibling rules associated with rezoning. The solution had to be simple and easy for parents and provide clear guidance on completing the reservation and enrollment.

Solution

OS4Ed worked with PCS to build a state of the art web based reservation system. The new reservation system applies all rules on the fly and reserves a spot where capacity is available. Working closely with the experienced team at OS4Ed, PCS was able to deploy the solution in 10 weeks.

The solution integrates with a 911 address database, Active Directory and SASIxp. Parents receive confirmations and expiration notices via email and/or text message using OS4Ed’s bAlert service. 2,500+ reservations in the first 3 days.
